Using the web library
The web library can be used without logging in. However, many services, such as renewing your loans and administering your profile, require that you log in with your library card number and PIN (passcode). After your first login, an account in the web library is automatically created. After this you will automatically be able to use the services requiring user login.
If you do not have PIN, you will get one by visiting the library. You may also create a code by clicking the ”Forgot PIN code” link on the LOGIN page at the web library if you have included an e-mail address in your customer info.
Library cards
You can attach several library cards to your user account and administer them all with a single login. In order to make use of this feature you will need, besides the number of the library cards, also the PIN codes for all the cards you wish to attach. You can also give individual names to all attached library cards.
Logging out
When you wish to log out of the web library, first click on your name on the top bar, then click Log out.
Basic Search
You may browse the library catalogue with the browse bar on top of the page.
If search words are separated only by spaces, the search results are the same as when using the AND operator, i.e., the search results contain all the search words you have entered.
For example, mannerheim carl produces the same search results as mannerheim AND carl.
Narrowing the search
You can use the Narrow Search menu to narrow your search according to format (e.g., image), organisation (e.g., National Archives) or language. You can specify the year(s) of production by entering a range of years or using the visual timeline tool. Search results can be narrowed by selecting several criteria at the same time. By clicking on the arrow, you can display the locations or formats (e.g., compilation, archive series, DVD) of a lower hierarchical level. By default, the menu displays the most relevant search results at the top.
You can see and delete criteria under the Narrow Search menu.
If you wish to carry out a new search applying the same criteria, enable the function "Retain filters".
